He Loves Me Not

Sitting by the window in the still night, she breathed in calmly. She held a flower, a daisy to be exact, the thin green stem rolling between the tips of her petite fingers.

"He loves me"

She pulled off one of the fragile white petals and let it fall to the floor with it's gentle swaying motion.

"He loves me not"

"Oi! What the hell are you doing out here in the rain woman?!?!" he shouted as he rushed towards her with an umbrella, his cigarette fell from his lips while he did so. "Fuck!" he swore as he stood beside her, under the umbrella.

With a small smile she continued on plucking another petal off the pretty flower.

"He loves me"

Off with a petal...

"He loves me not"

"Hey... are you hungry?" he asked, a tint of pink tainting his cheeks "Not that I care about you, but I'm starving and since we're heading back in the same-" he was cut of with a "Yes". That was the first time she saw his smile.

"He loves me"

"He loves me not"

"GO HOME THEN!" he had slammed the door shut. Tears were falling from her large doe like eyes. She had refused to tell him about her family problems, they were only bruises and they would heal in time, as long as she had him. Everything would be alright as long as she had him by her side. The door slammed open, his face was still red from anger but his eyes have softened. Making his way towards her quickly, he embraced her in a warm hug, his large arms going around her. "I'm sorry," he whispered softly.

"He loves me"

She let out a small yawn as she looked at the clock on the wall, it's hands were vertically aligned in the middle, telling her that it's already midnight. But she continued on with the daisy which was starting to bald.

"He loves me not"

"I WILL REPORT YOU FOR ABUSE YOU OLD BASTARD!" he shouted at whom she called her father. She didn't want him to see her in this state, helpless and in pain. Her father had beaten her, calling her a slut for having come home late. She had not mean to call him but her hands instinctively pressed her the keypad on her phone, having his number on speed dial. He had barged into her house like a knight in shining armor and threatened her father for abusing her.

"He loves me"

"He loves me not"

Moving in with a man 9 years older than her was a risky move but he had insisted on it. "I don't want that old man near you, not when I'm not around," he had reasoned. "Aren't you an old man too?" she asked "I'm sorry, would you repeat that?" he asked with a rather irked expression on his face "You're old right?" she asked with a grin "I'm still in my early twenties!! 24 IS NOT OLD!!!" he roared.

Giggling at the memory, she continued on.

"He loves me"

"He loves me not"

"Thank you," she smiled "What the hell are you thanking me for?" he scowled with a blush on his face as he pour himself a cup of coffee "Thank you for saving me, on that rainy night and when I needed you the most, thank you," she cried.

"He loves me"

"He loves me not"

"Hey, didn't I tell you not to wait up for me?"

The familiar, soothing voice had startled her, making her jump a little bit before placing the flower down on the windowsill.

"What the hell are you doing making a mess for?" he asked when he spotted the pure white petals on the ground "I was playing He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not," she got up from her chair and walked over to him.   "That's a stupid game when the answer is obvious," he pat her on the head. She smiled, a warm smile before tiptoeing up to peck him on the cheek.

"I love you too!!" she grinned as he blushed beet root red, covering the bottom half of his face in embarrassment.
